POLICIES & STATEMENTS

ACCESS

Italia Conti is committed to a policy of widening access to its training courses and recruits students from all areas of the community including those from deprived social areas, minority ethnic groups, the disabled (including those with learning difficulties) and lifelong learners through outreach work and liaison with specialist organisations.

BRITISH VALUES STATEMENT

Italia Conti is committed to serving its community. It recognises the multi-cultural, multi-faith and ever changing nature of the United Kingdom. It also understands the vital role it has in ensuring that groups or individuals within the Academy are not subjected to intimidation or radicalisation by those wishing to unduly, or illegally, influence them. It follows equal opportunities guidance which guarantees that there will be no discrimination against any individual or group, regardless of faith, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, political or financial status, or similar. Italia Conti is dedicated to preparing pupils for their adult life beyond the formal curriculum and ensuring that it promotes and reinforces British values to all its pupils.

COMPLAINTS POLICY & PROCEDURE

Italia Conti is committed to providing a high quality education and training experience for all our students. It is recognised that from time to time problems do arise and students may wish to express concern or dissatisfaction with aspects or the quality of services provided. Italia Conti sees the handling and monitoring of complaints as an important aspect of our quality assurance procedures. Many complaints can be resolved at an informal and/or local level. Italia Conti strongly encourages resolution of this kind and a student wishing to make representation under this procedure will be expected to have pursued informal resolution prior to bringing a formal complaint.

EMERGENCY POLICY

This policy helps to provide guidance in case of sudden emergencies such as:

  • a serious accident involving students and staff where injury or fatalities may be involved

  • where emergency evacuation is required

EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES STATEMENT

Italia Conti has an ethos, developed over 100 years, of welcoming students from across the social and cultural spectrum. Students are offered places at Italia Conti on the basis of their talent and suitability for the industry regardless of gender, race, creed, colour, religion, age, physical impairment, learning difficulties or any other factor.

DISABILITY STATEMENT

Italia Conti is aware of its obligations and responsibilities under the Special Educational Needs and Disability Act 2001. Students are protected under the terms of this act. Italia Conti has long been associated with the development of artistic individuality. Audition procedures are designed to uncover talent, temperament and charisma and are not based on any specific ideal. We therefore welcome applications from disabled persons and are more than happy to discuss individual cases where potential students need guidance as to their suitability for the courses offered. Students with a physical or mental impairment will be auditioned under exactly the same criteria as able-bodied pupils. Further information can be obtained by contacting the Academy.

EXTREMISM & ANTI-RADICALISATION POLICY

This policy supports the PREVENT duty for Schools and Colleges as part of the Counter Terrorism and security Act (2015) and is part of the overall safeguarding policy. The Academy has a zero tolerance of any member of the College engaged in extremist behaviour. All members of the College staff are trained and demonstrate an understanding of what type of behaviour constituted extremist behaviour and are vigilant. The policy supports and complements the British Values set out in the Department of Education guidance, 'Promoting fundamental British values as part of SMSC in schools'. The policy accompanies other related safeguarding documents including the e-safety and equality policies.

HEALTH & SAFETY

In formulating its policy, Italia Conti has paid regard to the DCSF document, Guidance on Health and Safety: Responsibilities and Powers. It should be noted that the "Italia Conti Academy" operates programmes/courses across various education sectors and any reference to "the academy" is all encompassing (as appropriate) of the Academy (HE and FE courses, 16+) and the Theatre Arts School (SE, also known as the Trust). Italia Conti recognises and accepts its responsibility for providing a safe, healthy workplace and working environment for all its employees and students and any others affected by its activities - contractors, visitors, neighbours and members of the general public.

SAFEGUARDING POLICY

including Child Protection & the Protection of Vulnerable Adults

This policy takes account of guidance issued by the Secretary of State: Safeguarding Children and Safer Recruitment in Education (SCSRE) (2007), associated guidance: Dealing with Allegations of Abuse against Teachers and other Staff (revised 2012) and current ISI Regulatory Standards (September 2013). It applies to all branches and areas of Italia Conti.

SAFER RECRUITMENT POLICY & PROCEDURE

Italia Conti is committed to providing the best possible care and education for its students for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. In addition, Italia Conti is committed to providing a supportive and flexible working environment for all its members of staff. Italia Conti recognises that in order to achieve these aims, it is of fundamental importance to attract, recruit and retain staff of the highest calibre, who share this commitment. As part of our safeguarding commitment, appointment to any post is subject to receipt of a satisfactory, enhanced, Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

WHISTLEBLOWING POLICY

Italia Conti is committed to conducting its business with honesty and integrity, and expects all staff to maintain high standards in accordance with their contractual obligations and Italia Conti's policies and procedures. However, all organisations face the risk of things going wrong from time to time, or of unknowingly harbouring illegal or unethical conduct. A culture of openness and accountability is essential in order to prevent such situations occurring or to address them when they do occur.
